Taking your children to work to show them what you do is a well-established custom among businesses. But what about your parents? LinkedIn thinks they ought to know what your job is like too, and has developed Bring In Your Parents Day.
Agency Mother London is one of several companies to sign up to the global initiative, which launches on November 7 across 14 countries (others include Deutsche Bank,Starcom MediaVest Group and Edelman). Businesses can still sign up online to get involved. The idea was developed in-house.
According to the agency, research by LinkedIn showed almost half of parents in the UK (46%) don't fully understand their child's job. Of these almost 1 in 10 admit they only know the area/industry in which their child works. While almost all parents (97%) are proud of their child's work achievements despite many not understanding what they do, 35% want to know more. Among the most misunderstood jobs are UI Designer, Data Scientist and Social Media Manager.
As well as the date, the website will also carry information such as the top most misunderstood jobs, and will include a "make your own report card" feature.
