ECOtality: Blink EV Charger

Published on .

Just as more Electric Vehicles have started to hit the roads, so too have their charging stations. Earlier this month, fuseproject teamed with GE to launch the Wattstation, and now, Frog Design and ECOtality have announced the latest entrant into the EV charging fray, Blink.

The companies have developed versions of Blink for both residential and commercial use. The former features a two-part design witha separate cable wrap to accommodate different types of electric cars. It's also built with restricted residential spaces in mind, with a tapered, rain proof housing and connector safely tucked in to avoid accidental bump-ins. Commercially, Frog worked with ECOtality to create a charger that would fit seamlessly into a range of public spaces, from big box stores and movie theaters to coffee shops.

Overally, Frog also aimed to give Blink a timeless design, with a black and white palette that mirrors electronic devices that consumers are more familiar with, over the more common, expected green associated with the eco-minded aesthetic.

The Blink system interface is also fully interactive and will provide users with info on energy consumption over time and inexpensive times to charge, with data also delivered via smart phone and the web.
