The Copenhagen Wheel, a digital hybrid bike system developed by MIT SENSEable City Lab, took the U.S National Dyson prize this week. The wheel hooks up to your smartphone to turn the everyday bike into an electric hybrid. The wheel requires no additional wiring or batteries. Not only does it help to conserve your energy expended for times when you'll really need it (riding up hills, etc.), through your phone it also enhances your biking experience with personal training tips, traffic congestion updates and site-seeing info. The wheel was introduced at the COP15 U.N. Climate Conference late last year and was part of Carlo Ratti's presentation at CAT N.Y. It will go on to compete against other Dyson national winners (like this one) for the organization's International Prize..
