Ms. Mueller, most recently senior director of communications and community affairs for PepsiCo North America, will report to Debra Goetz, Hyatt's senior VP-corporate marketing and global communications.

She succeds in part Farley Kern, who left the hotel chain about a year ago, though the post now also includes social engagement. The social media team recently became part of the global communications team, a Hyatt spokesperson confirmed.

Ms. Mueller was not immediately available for comment.

During her nearly 10 years at PepsiCo, Ms. Mueller held a number of leadership positions, including senior director-communications and chief of staff and senior manager of communications, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Prior to PepsiCo, she worked on the agency side at shops such as Weber Shandwick and CKPR.

Hyatt reported a 9.9% revenue drop in the third quarter of 2015, compared to the same period last year, according to the company's earnings statement. Hyatt's owned and leased hotel expenses also decreased 8.8% in the third quarter year-over-year.

Over the last few weeks, media reports have been buzzing about Hyatt being in discussions about possibly acquiring Starwood Hotels. The company declined to comment.
