The Week Ahead: Amazon hosts cloud services event and Web Summit goes virtual

AWS re:Invent kicks off today for a three-week online super-conference that dives into the inner workings of one of Amazon’s most important businesses, cloud services. The event is typically held in Las Vegas but will be remote this year, and it starts with a late-night livestream at 11 p.m. EST before launching into a full agenda of daily programming in the following weeks.
Ad Age Remotely, our live video interview series, hosts Harvey Purchese, senior VP of marketing at liquor marketer William Grant & Sons, whose brands include Hendricks Gin, Balvenie and Glenfiddich Malt whiskies, Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whisky, Milagro Tequila and Reyka Vodka.

Companies presenting today at the Morgan Stanley Virtual Global Consumer & Retail Conference include Clorox, Macy’s, Jack in the Box and Restaurant Brands International, which runs Burger King, Popeyes and Tim Hortons. Tomorrow’s lineup includes Dick’s Sporting Goods, Kraft Heinz and Walmart, while the companies presenting on Dec. 3 include Mondelēz International.
It’s Giving Tuesday, when groups try to tap into the holiday shopping season by suggesting people spend to support charitable causes. Last year, $511 million was raised online in the U.S., according to organizers.

NBC broadcasts the annual Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting, which this year will be held without public attendance.
Dec. 3
Web Summit, the global tech event, is streaming online this week from Dec. 2 to 4. Instead of an annual trek to Lisbon, industry leaders and dignitaries, including stars like Serena Williams, will join virtually. Today, TikTok’s Blake Candlee is among the guests, speaking on a panel at 5 p.m. EST.
