International football (also known as soccer) is known for its
fierce rivalries and fanatical fans and Adidas has tossed the two
together in its unique "Predator vs F50" campaign. The interactive
effort features eight web films that pit some of the brand's
biggest names against one another in loosely related football
contests to see which Adidas boot (the Predator or the F50) is
best. 180 Amsterdam worked with London production company
Knucklehead and directing team Zak and Dan to combine live action
with slick on-line visual effects. Different animators shaped the
visual effects to help give each spot a unique look, such as by
London-based animation shop Not to Scale's offerings, "Footbowling"
and "Head vs Heart."
In "Staring," it's David Beckham taking on Chelsea's Ashley Cole in
a good ol' staring contest. Becks foils Cole with some well-timed
(and undoubtedly well-groomed) eyebrow raises. "Thumbwars" sees Chelsea teammates Frank Lampard and
Shaun Wright-Phillips go head-to-head while thumb wrestling Lucha
Libre-style and the two also square off in "Wibbly Wobbly," trying to see who can score
after some dizzying antics.
Adidas serves up futbol flavored web films
With no Champions League action left and so many of its players involved in this contest, Chelsea must still be hungry for some sort of competition. But instead of meeting AC Milan in Athens, these stars, along with a number of others like Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Real Madrid's Kaka, will team up with some lucky fans at a private Spanish resort in June to actually play a soccer game to determine the final outcome of Predator vs. F50. Fans uploaded short contest videos of their own to adidas.com and the best were chosen to play alongside their futbol idols. It's hard to predict the winner, but given how these icons are portrayed in these web films with a fun, down-to-earth humor, we're pretty sure it's Adidas.
