BBDO's Graf to be Named ECD at Chiat/Day/N.Y.

TBWA/Chiat/Day is expected to announce -- perhaps as early as this evening -- that BBDO ECD Gerry Graf has been named executive creative director of the agency's New York office. Although Graf and Chiat/Day have reportedly reached an agreement in principle, both parties declined comment until the deal is final. A spokesman for BBDO, meanwhile, confirms that Graf tendered his resignation this afternoon. Graf, one of six ECDs at BBDO, oversaw creative for FedEx, Guinness and Red Stripe, among other clients.

After working as a copywriter on the Snickers business at BBDO, Graf went to Goodby, Silverstein & Partners to run the E*Trade account in 1997 before returning to BBDO as an ECD in 2000. During his latest tenure at BBDO, Graf oversaw two rounds of the FedEx "Business Legends" campaign, as well as this year's "Relax. It's FedEx" effort. In addition, he created comic campaigns for Red Stripe, Tostitos and Guinness, and contributed to BBDO's celebrated "New York Miracle" effort.
