Is it us, or do directors seem to be leaping all over the place these days? Boy wonder Guy Manwaring, who left Therapy Films earlier this year, recently found a new U.K. home at Sonny London with director Fredrik Bond and MD Helen Kenny. Manwaring explains that the setup of the company, which he likens to the way great U.S. shops are run, had appealed to him. "So many U.K. companies are run by a producer who's also off producing," he says. "But Helen was someone who'd given me a lot of hands on advice, and then Fredrik blows you away with his enthusiasm and energy."
Award-winning features/documentary director and writer George Hickenlooper, who earned this year's DGA for Best Documentary for Ghosts of Cite Soliel and also shot acclaimed films Hearts of Darkness, Mayor of the Sunset Strip and Factory Girl, enters the commercials realm via the roster of Bicoastal/London Epoch Films. Hickenlooper recently directed and wrote the celebrity-studded viral campaign for Speechless Without Writers.
Speaking of viral, if you haven't seen this one yet, please do. Now. Sarah Silverman's "I'm f*cking Matt Damon" clip, a birthday present to boyfriend Jimmy Kimmel, was directed by Wayne McClammy, who recently joined the roster of The Oil Factory. McClammy has previously directed for The Sarah Silverman Program and Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
Lastly, Thomas Thomas signed Paranoid directors Francis Vogel, former Arnold creative Nicole McDonald and ex-CG artist Sophie Gateau, for U.K. representation. "We are very excited," says Paranoid EP Phillip Detchmendy. The signings are part of a partnership with Paranoid, which will remain actively involved in any future projects with ThomasThomas.
