Remembering and running for Gideon Baws

Published on .

It's been nearly a year since the passing of industry talent Gideon Baws, who was a member of the directing team Shynola. Baws died suddenly October 11 in L.A. The cause of his death, according to Baws' colleagues at The Directors Bureau, was a form of cardiomyopathy, triggered by a viral infection.

According to a statement, "it is estimated that in the U.K. alone, 12 'apparently fit and healthy' young people under 35 die from undiagnosed heart problems every week." The late director's friends (he was repped out of The Directors Bureau and RSA/Black Dog) have established a Gideon Baws Memorial Fund at CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), which works to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome.

On the anniversary of Baws' death, "Team GB" will run the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London to raise money for the fund. The team includes Shynola's Kenny Kenworthy, Nick Goldsmith of Hammer and Tongs and Barney Newman of Pixipixel. For more information and to sponsor the team, visit
