In the December issue of Creativity, which hits mailrooms this week, the magazine names Goodby, Silverstein & Partners its 2003 Agency of the Year. As the editors note, in a year when "agencies distinguished themselves by being able to push through creative, challenging, meaningful work across a wide client base, Goodby shone and provided the industry with a number of landmark pieces of advertising while rarely putting a foot wrong across the board." HP: Campaign of the Year
In addition to being named the top agency of 2003, Goodby also received kudos in the year-end issue for creating both the Campaign of the Year and the Spot of the Year. Creativity named the agency's work for Hewlett-Packard as the year's top campaign. "HP became the buzz campaign through the industry," the editors write, "as the agency tapped some of the best directorial talent available to execute spot after arresting spot of eye-popping and relevant imagery, the ads building on each other to render formerly square HP a magnetic new personality." Milk: Spot of the Year
As for Spot of the Year, Goodby again took the prize with the milk spot "Birthday" from director Noam Murro, which -- according to Creativity's editors -- takes "its place in the pantheon of classic "Got Milk?" spots while standing up as a fresh, delightfully dark gem in its own right." Runners-up for Spot of the Year honors include Honda's "Best Friends" from Rubin Postaer & Associates, HP's "You" and "The Next Shift" from Goodby, and Nike "Streaker" and ESPN "Shelf Ball" -- both from Wieden + Kennedy. In the race for Production Company of the Year, Creativity bestowed the honor on MJZ for the second year in a row on the strength of roster-wide work for HP, Honda, Washington Mutual and more. Runners-up include Hungry Man and Anonymous Content with a special honorable mention for Smuggler as the breakout production company of the year. To read about MJZ and the runners-up, click here.
