In addition to awarding Gold Pencils, the One Club board of directors will induct a new president at tonight's One Show in New York. McKinney + Silver ECD David Baldwin will start a three-year term as president of the One Club, assuming the post from John Butler, CD at Butler, Shine, Stern & Partners. Baldwin said that he has several goals for his tenure, including broadening activities for members beyond New York, citing the club's portfolio review -- during which leaders of the business give advice to rising creatives -- as a possible way to take events on the road. He also stated the One Club's desire to be a place of conversation about the future of advertising in the presence of TiVo and a crowded market, while promoting original ideas and diversifying the definition of advertising.

"It used to be print, outdoor, radio, television, and collateral," he said. "Those rules are changing, and an ad isn't even an ad anymore, sometimes it's something stuck on the wall with a piece of gum. I can think of no better reason to do great work than because you need to get the people to come to you." (Melanie Shortman)
