Pinterest has tapped Jon Kaplan as its new head of global sales, the company said Tuesday.
Mr. Kaplan joins the image bookmarking service company from Google, where he worked as VP of U.S. sales.
Pinterest has been making moves to attract revenue since the start of 2015, when it officially began selling ads to marketers. Tim Kendall, who was previously head of product management at Pinterest, was named the company's first general manager of monetization last March. Mr. Kaplan will now report directly to Mr. Kendall and assume some of his responsibilities, a spokesman said.
"We're excited to have Jon Kaplan join Pinterest," Mr. Kendall said. "He has tremendous digital advertising experience and we're looking forward to even stronger growth of our global ads platform under his leadership."
Mr. Kaplan will be filling in a role that was left vacant by Joanne Bradford, who left in June 2015. He will join Pinterest at its San-Francisco headquarters, the company said. He is expected to start March 7.
At Google, Mr. Kaplan worked on ad products including search, DoubleClick and YouTube. He also worked closely with the product team in areas such as vertical search. He joined Google in early 2004.
