Zynga Game Network made bought another satellite into their already burgeoning mobile business with today's announcement that they purchased mobile game company Newtoy. Zynga did not release the purchase price, but was giddy with numbers during the conference call with journalists.

Zynga could be called the Google of the gaming world having acquired seven companies in the last seven months, including Bonfire Studios, Challenge Games, Conduit Labs, Dextrose AG, Unoh Games and XPD.

"Mobile is the next great frontier in gaming," said Zynga chief of mobile David Ko, adding that ten million people per month access Zynga games like Farmville and Mafia Wars on mobile devices and that in the first five months, Farmville was downloaded 7 million times on the iPhone.

Texas-based Newtoy will add 23 employees to Zynga's 1300. The company's most popular games so far have been Scrabble-like "Words with Friends," which has been downloaded 12 million times for the iPad, iPhone and iTouch. Following the naming tradition of Newtoy games (i.e., Chess with Friends), Zynga is establishing a studio called "Zynga with Friends" where it will focus on mobile gaming.

Mr. Ko said that Zynga's goal is to bridge the large divide between mobile and PC games. "It's more like, hey there's a great game out there in the cloud and I just wanna play it."
