The One Club's Design Bash

Design has been a part of the One Show since 2001, but the One Club held its first ever One Show Design Awards ceremony on July 12, at New York's Chelsea Art Museum. The decision to spin off design honors reflects the increasing number of entries received from around the world in recent years, as well as the growing emphasis on good design in the consumer marketplace, One Club CEO Mary Warlick explains. "Package design is often a consumer's first experience of a product," she notes. "By giving design its own special night, we're sending an unmistakable message—good design is good for business."

In addition to that all-important package design, awards ranged across the likes of corporate identity, environmental design, publication design and direct mail, with Apple Computer the biggest winner, collecting six Pencils. Seen here are some Gold winners: Apple's sole Gold Pencilist, the iPod Nano packaging; an ingenious business card for a diving instructor, a Corporate Identity winner for BBDO/Bangkok; and a poster on behalf of the Sydney Writers' Festival, a Collateral Design winner for Saatchi & Saatchi/Sydney. The show also featured a retrospective of the past six years of One Show Design as well as an exhibition of the year's best international design, the latter remaining on display, open to the public.
