Orion Walks for Breast Cancer

IPG Mediabrands Agency Sponsors Avon Drive

Orion Trading is partnering with the Avon Foundation as an official national sponsor of the 2011 Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, joining three of the event's nine walks in the U.S. The effort is part of the IPG Mediabrands agency's Gives Back program.

Orion employees are preparing for the Sept. 17–18 Santa Barbara, Calif., walk and the Oct. 15–16 event in New York, after participating in the June 4–5 Chicago walk. In addition, staffers will be setting up cheering stations along the route.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to find a cure," said Tom Telesco, president, Orion Trading U.S., in announcing the sponsorship. "Breast cancer has affected almost everyone in some way, and so it is a true honor to be associated with this cause."

The Avon Walk covers 39.3 miles in two days to raise money and awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Participants walk either a marathon (26.2 miles) or half marathon (13.1 miles) on the first day, Saturday , then spend the night at the Avon Walk Wellness Village, sleeping in two-person pink tents. The Wellness Village also offers hot showers, prepared meals, volunteer medical services, support services and leisure activities. The event concludes on Sunday with a 13.1-mile walk, with a closing ceremony where Avon Foundation gives the funds raised to local organizations.

Since it started in 2003, the Avon Walk has raised more than $390 million.
