Schering consolidates biz at Omnicom, Publicis

[Kenilworth, N.J.] Schering-Plough consolidated its estimated $400 million prescription-drug advertising with Omnicom Group and Publicis Groupe following a review of holding companies. Schering this month will begin the processes of assigning brands to agencies. Existing relationships with agencies outside the holding companies will be reviewed, according to executives familiar with the matter. The decision does not affect Schering's OTC business. Nokia launches review for $200M global campaign

[London] Nokia has invited four holding companies-WPP, Interpublic, Omnicom and Havas-to pitch for a global communications campaign, estimated at up to $200 million. WPP, which hopes to complete its planned acquisition of Grey Global Group in early 2005, designated Grey Worldwide, already Nokia's agency in Europe and the U.S., to pitch. Agency executives said that Lowe is representing Interpublic, DDB Worldwide will pitch for Omnicom, and Havas' only network, Euro RSCG Worldwide, will represent that group. See QwikFIND aaq22w

E-Trade taps BBDO for $60 million account

[New York] E-Trade Financial named Omnicom's BBDO, New York to handle its advertising account, estimated at $60 million. Nick Utton, E-Trade's chief marketing officer, would not disclose details, but hinted the upcoming effort will depart from the current "Join the revolution" campaign launched by BBDO on a project basis last year. Fleishman execs involved in L.A. scandal depart

[Los Angeles] Three Fleishman-Hillard executives who worked on the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power account at the center of an overbilling controversy are "no longer" with the Omnicom PR firm, according to a Fleishman spokesman. The executives are Doug Dowie, former general manager of the firm's Los Angeles office (on administrative leave since July), and senior VPs Steve Getzug and John Stodder. Citing company policy, the spokesman wouldn't comment on whether the men had been dismissed. A civil lawsuit against the firm is pending.

Intel's holding company review taking shape

[Santa Clara, Calif.] The lead agencies vying for Intel's $300 million holding company review have become clear following briefings last week at the marketer's headquarters, according to executives familiar with the matter. WPP is creating a specially tailored team: personnel from Berlin Cameron/Red Cell, Y&R and others are collaborating. Omnicom's effort is being led by DDB Worldwide, while McCann Erickson is leading Interpublic's push. A spokesman for incumbent Euro RSCG, a unit of Havas, said that the agency would make a presentation next month, despite rumors that it and Publicis had been eliminated. Holding company and agency spokespeople either couldn't be reached or referred calls to consultant Select Resources International, which declined to comment.

Coors asks roster for more Coors Light ideas

[Golden, Colo.] Coors Brewing Co. is asking roster agencies for another round of creative ideas for the troubled Coors Light brand, according to people familiar with the matter. Agencies presented ideas late last month to replace the current "Rock On" campaign, but have been asked for more. Interpublic's Foote Cone & Belding, Chicago, is the agency of record and sibling Deutsch, Los Angeles, also works on the brand. Carol H. Williams Advertising, Oakland, and Publicis' Bromley Communications, San Antonio, are also roster shops. Coors didn't provide a comment by press time. Deutsch referred calls to client. The other agencies didn't return calls.

Mitsubishi set to trim list for $200M review

[Cypress, Calif.] Mitsubishi Motors North America's review panel met Jan. 7 to cut the list of shops that answered the RFP for its $200 million creative, media planning, interactive and collateral accounts. Among the agencies who responded, according to executives close to the matter, are: Independent Heil Brice Retail Advertising, Los Angeles; Interpublic's TM, Irving, Texas; sibling Sedgwick Rd., Seattle; Hakuhodo-aligned Mendelsohn Zien Advertising, Los Angeles; and MDC's Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York. The shops declined to comment. The review is proceeding despite last week's sudden resignation of Mitsubishi Co-Chairman-CEO Finbarr O'Neill. Incumbent Deutsch had not told the client as of last week whether it would defend.

Jaguar contacts shops as part of global review

[New York] Roth Associates sent out questionnaires and is talking to agencies for Jaguar's global creative and marketing services review. The Ford Motor Co. brand is said to have approached some of the same agencies that Select Resources International contacted for Mitsubishi's review, including TM and Kirshenbaum. Omnicom's GSD&M, Austin, is also said to be pursuing. Incumbent Y&R, Irvine and London, is defending. WPP siblings Berlin Cameron and J. Walter Thompson are chasing. The agencies declined to comment. The client would not name the agencies involved.

Talcott, Wahl resign from McD's international team

[Oak Brook, Ill.] Two executives on McDonald's Corp.'s international marketing team have resigned. Joe Talcott, chief creative officer-international, is leaving the Golden Arches to return his family to their native Australia, while overseas-based Jeff Wahl, senior director-worldwide sports marketing, opted not to move to the U.S. after the marketer centralized its global marketing leadership to its Oak Brook, Ill., headquarters, according to Larry Light, McDonald's chief global marketing officer.


Sarah Jewler, who served as managing editor of New York Magazine under three top editors, died Jan. 5 from a rare blood disease. She was 56, and had just begun a leave of absence in preparation for a bone marrow transplant. ... Hewlett-Packard has moved media planning duties for the majority of its branding advertising account from Omnicom Group's Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, to Publicis Groupe's Zenith Media, executives familiar with the situation said. ... Jacquie Lenart will join Gap Inc. this month as VP-marketing for Banana Republic International. Ms. Lenart, 36, joins from Campbell Soup Co.'s Godiva Chocolatier, where she was senior VP-marketing.
