Alpha Media Hires Former Reader's Digest Publisher

Ben Madden to Helm Blender Magazine

NEW YORK ( -- The revolving doors set spinning when Kent Brownridge and Mary Berner returned to the magazine business rotated again today, as Mr. Brownridge installed a new publisher at Blender -- tapping an executive who left as Ms. Berner took over his previous company.

Blender's new publisher is Ben Madden, who had been VP-sales at Time Inc.'s Media Networks Inc. since August but was previously publisher of Reader's Digest magazine.

Succeeds Rosenbaum
Mr. Madden succeeds Lee Rosenbaum, who had been publisher at Blender since April 2005. Mr. Rosenbaum is leaving Mr. Brownridge's company, Alpha Media Group.

Blender's ad pages from January through its November issue have declined 5.6% from the equivalent period last year, according to the Media Industry Newsletter. But Mr. Brownridge has pushed the magazine to advertisers, committing it to providing faster circulation figures through the Rapid Report system and guaranteeing individual issues' paid circulation.

The title is increasing its rate base to 900,000 with the January/February issue.
