Will Schenck, associate publisher at Men’s Journal since June 2003, was promoted to publisher, succeeding Carlos Lamadrid, who was named publisher at Fairchild Publications’ Jane Oct. 31. Mr. Schenck previously worked at magazines including Vanity Fair and Gourmet.

And Wenner hired Tom Foster to come back and serve as editor at Men’s Journal, assuming some of the duties vacated by editor in chief Michael Caruso amid contract negotiations last month. Mr. Foster returns to Men’s Journal, where he had most recently been deputy editor, after just four months as features editor at Men’s Health, the Rodale title.

“In both cases, you’ve got a lot of personnel consistency,” Mr. Schenck said. “In both cases you’ve got people who know the magazine extremely well.”

The continuity will actually run deeper still. As part of the changes, Jann Wenner, chairman-president, decided to retake the editor in chief title for himself, resuming his place atop the masthead for the first time since 2003. Mr. Wenner founded Men’s Journal in 1992.
