Dana Nessel, a Detroit lawyer and Democratic candidate for Michigan attorney general, alludes to all the recent news about powerful men accused of sexual misconduct in a new campaign ad uploaded to her official YouTube channel. And then she asks a rather pointed question.
"If the last few weeks has taught us anything," Nessel says, "it's that we need more women in positions of power, not less. So when you're choosing Michigan's next attorney general, ask yourself this: Who can you trust most not to show you their penis in a professional setting? Is it the candidate who doesn't have a penis? I'd say so."
Curiously, Nessel doesn't ever actually state that she herself doesn't have a penis, though she does state "Yes, I'm a woman," and at one point a headline is shown on screen—"Civil rights attorney named Woman of the Year" (from Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2015)—which references her gender.
Nessel also says, "I want to tell you what you can expect me not to do. I will not sexually harass my staff and I won't tolerate it in your workplace either. I won't walk around in a half-open bathrobe and I'll continue to take all sex crimes seriously—just like I did as a prosecutor."
