Former "Today" show and "Acccess Hollywood" host Billy Bush is in the news again because of his op-ed titled "Billy Bush: Yes, Donald Trump, You Said That," which The New York Times published on Sunday—and on Monday night he went on "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" to double down on his message.
Bush's Times piece, which addresses the notorious "Access Hollywood" outtake video in which Trump can be heard bragging about sexually assaulting women, begins,
He said it. "Grab 'em by the pussy."
Of course he said it. And we laughed along, without a single doubt that this was hypothetical hot air from America's highest-rated bloviator. Along with Donald Trump and me, there were seven other guys present on the bus at the time, and every single one of us assumed we were listening to a crass standup act. He was performing. Surely, we thought, none of this was real. We now know better.
As Bush further notes in the piece, "President Trump is currently indulging in some revisionist history, reportedly telling allies, including at least one United States senator, that the voice on the tape is not his." On Colbert, he reiterated, well, reality—addressing Trump directly: "That is your voice. You were there. I was there. That's your voice on the tape."
Bush also told Colbert that he believes the women who have publicly accused Trump of sexual misconduct, reiterating what he said in his Times op-ed. On "The Late Show," he again addressed Trump in regard to his accusers vis-à-vis the president's bizarre decision to start suddenly start denying that the "Access Hollywood" tape is real: "You're reopening wounds on them too. Enough's enough. Stop playing around with people's lives."
