NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- New hit music has become about as indispensable to commercials as commercials have become to the modern music business. So why shouldn't the Grammy Awards recognize how popular bands were on Madison Avenue in the past year?
Stephen Colbert, apparently now a Grammy voter, put that idea to the test last night when he brought on members of Vampire Weekend and The Black Keys to duke it out over over his vote for Best Alternative Music Album. The criteria: Which edgy, alternative band made more of a home for itself in mainstream commercials for brands like Zales, Honda and Victoria's Secret?
