Three CMOs in 18 Months

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Jill Rudnick, chief marketing officer of Wenner Media, left the company early this week. She was replaced by Gary Armstrong, who was formerly Wenner's creative services director, a company spokesman confirmed.

"We just decided to make a change," said the spokesman, who declined to offer any further specifics.

Ms. Rudnick came to Wenner last November after serving as an executive at AOL Time Warner. Her short tenure as the top corporate marketing executive at Wenner is not atypical for the company.

Three CMOs in 18 months
Around 18 months ago, the company consolidated marketing efforts at its three titles -- Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Men's Journal -- into one department. Mr. Armstrong will be the third head of that department since then.

Or, as a Wenner insider cracked, "it's par for the course here." As of June 5, callers to Wenner media's general number were told Ms. Rudnick was no longer at the company, and she could not be immediately located elsewhere.

Three years at Wenner
Mr. Armstrong has been at Wenner for more than three years. Before becoming creative services director, he served as a marketing director at Us Weekly.
