Boyko, Greenberg on Tearing Down Silos and Embracing Technology

Both BusinessWeek and Fast Company recently tackled that perennially fascinating topic, design -- touching on its relationship to and role in advertising. In BusinessWeek's "Advertising by Design" (Oct. 15, 2007), writer Maha Atal provides a profile of VCU's Adcenter Managing Director Rich Boyko, whose philosophy that creatives and account managers understand and work with each other -- and not as siloed entities -- drives the prestigious program's curriculum.

Fast Company also offers up in its design issue a profile, this time of R/GA's bespecled founder Bob Greenberg, as an example of someone who is actually crafting the technology behind interactive media ("Reinventing the Reel," October 2007). Crediting him with building an agency around digital a decade before other agencies would even consider it, it's an interesting look at the evolution of R/GA and the foresight of Mr. Greenberg.
