(June 7, 2001) -- The Outdoor Advertising Association of America released the list of 44 finalists for the 59th annual OBIE Awards for creative excellence in outdoor advertising, to be held Sept. 12 in New York.

A panel of judges chose 67 entries out of 1,000 submitted. The prizes are an OBIE (first place), a Merit (second place) or a Finalist distinction (third place).

There are three agencies up for more than one award. Omnicom Group's BBDO Worldwide has three international shops that were recognized: BBDO/Canada for two campaigns, along with BBDO/Hong Kong and BBDO/Germany. Taxi Advertising & Design, Toronto, has two entries to make the cut, and Interpublic Group of Cos.' Martin Agency, Richmond, is also up for two awards.

From among the OBIE winners, four $10,000 prizes will be awarded for best billboard, best street furniture or transit ad, best campaign and best international campaign. One of the four will also receive an extra $10,000 for the Best of Show prize. -- Cara Beardi
