55 million shoppers expected to hit the online malls

Nielsen/NetRatings predicted 20% of the U.S. population, about 55 million shoppers, will hit online storefronts this holiday year, where they'll be greeted by more well-known brick-and-mortar players like Old Navy and Best Buy that have set up shop to challenge the Internet pure-plays. The categories expected to post the largest gains include toys, up 270%, with some 10 million shoppers in that category alone. Consumer electronics is expected to grow 109%; books, music and videos, 65%; and apparel and accessories, 61%.
