AmEx rides with Quantas credit card

SYDNEY -- American Express, which has long maintained brand purity while others happily co-branded, launches the Qantas-Amex corporate charge account, sharing space on its Centurion card. The new card is pitched at Amex's key business customers and will be used by Qantas to tie in frequent travelers.

Amex has had a long-standing relationship with Qantas through the international airline's frequent-flier scheme, although the alliance became slightly strained earlier this year when Qantas also joined the ANZ-Telstra-Visa card, a partnership with Australia's biggest telecommunications carrier and a major bank. Amex said it was investigating a number of other co-branding and alliance opportunities, including banks.

Qantas rival for Australia's domestic market share, Ansett Airines, has had a co-brand card with its charge card partner, Diners Club, for several years.
