AOL, Marvel team for online comics

America Online and Marvel Entertainment Group formed a joint venture to offer Marvel Online, an area on AOL featuring weekly original comic "books," jointly produced CD-ROMs and books, and fan-created artwork. The inaugural digital comic book features Spider-Man.

Separately, AOL officially announced its next upgrade, 3.0 for Windows. The software provides several enhancements, including making the Internet a more integral part of the service. AOL also renamed its main menu the "Channels" menu, furthering AOL's effort to market itself in a network metaphor.

AOL also officially launched its value pricing option, 20 hours of online time for $19.95 per month. AOL plans a significant marketing campaign in the fall to capitalize on all these features.
