AOL partners to develop point-of-sale interactive services

Taking a step toward its "AOL Anywhere" objective, America Online has partnered with technology company Radiant Systems for the development of consumer interactive services for deployment on point-of-sale devices. The multi-year agreement includes promotional opportunities at the retail level and could enable consumers to receive e-mail and other real-time information at retail locations worldwide. As part of the agreement, AOL will make a strategic investment in Radiant Systems and fund and participate in a new joint venture. In related news, AOL's local content network Digital City and publisher Knight Ridder inked a deal in which Knight Ridder's regional newspapers will provide local news and sports headlines, summary briefs and stories to select Digital City sites.
