New Apple Store sparks record sales

Apple Computer received $1.9 million in orders in a 24 hour-period at its online Apple Store, it announced May 8. Apple attributed the sales to its new Pentium-toasting PowerBook G3 notebook computers, which it unveiled May 6, along with an all-in-one Internet-ready computer called the iMac that it plans to roll out in August .

Apple's Apple Store for Education, which it unveiled earlier this week, received more than $1 million in orders in the first 24 hours of being open.
