The center was established to be an active research organization linking education and industry, founded with initial funding from the late Barton A. Cummings, former chairman emeritus of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising, New York.
The center's first major project is research into how advertising, public relations, direct marketing and sales promotion can be used to market Illinois to tourists. Also an annual survey of ad professionals is planned to assess the impact of new technologies.
Among dignitaries expected to attend the dedication are Margaret Cummings and James E. Haefner, center director.
