Asian job seekers look to cyberspace for help

SINGAPORE -- CareerMosaic ASIAN has teamed up with the U.S.-based Internet portal Yahoo! to use online advertising to promote job vacancies.

Banner ads are now appearing on Yahoo! in Asia to link job seekers with details of positions in the Career Mosaic jobs database based in 15 countries across Asia. Career Mosaic already receives 3.9 million user visits monthly, according to independent site auditor I-Pro, and up to 443,000 searches per day.

Alex Mungall, Career Mosaic account manager at Bernard Hodes Advertising, Singapore, says a number of major corporations in Asia have been spending an increasingly large proportion of their advertising budget on Internet advertising, including employment ads, because "managers find they can conduct a campaign across the region and reach job seekers in many countries very cheaply compared to press advertising."

Another such service, JobAsia in Hong Kong, says it now averages more than 3.5 million hits each week with seven million hits in one advertising cycle - a 10-fold increase from results posted one year ago.
