Bally holds pitch for new shoe brand

LONDON -- Bally, the upmarket shoe maker and retailer based in Switzerland, is thought to be in talks with three communications groups on both sides of the Atlantic about the launch of a new shoe brand in the U.K., Germany, France, Spain and the East Coast of the U.S.

Paul Simons, the chief executive of London-based TBWA/Simons Palmer, confirms that he was in Switzerland on Thursday to discuss the new account with Bally. The Swiss shoe maker is also believed to be in talks with a creative specialist in New York and another non-traditional agency in Germany.

The person at Bally in charge of the review, Werner Schnorf, senior vice president, leisure division, was not available for comment at press time.

The latest big global campaign for the Bally shoe brand broke last autumn using the theme of dancing. It was created by Farner/Publicis/FCB Zurich. Prior to September 1995 the Bally shoes account was held by Zurich-based Seiler DDB.
