Bates Norway retrenches 10% of executives

OSLO -- Bates has ratified plans to reduce the size of its Norwegian operation. Restructuring, which is designed to improve the bottom line, will result in a 10% reduction in payroll, with 20 accounts and office personnel expected to be laid off by year-end. Bates employs 200 employees in Norway.

"The onset of more computer-operated administrative and client management systems means that we are over-staffed," says Bates Norway General Manager Jan-Erik Naess.

Bates Norway reported earnings of $2.1 million on revenues of $26 million in 1997. In terms of revenues, the company has 18% of the Norwegian market.
