Bell Atlantic boasts great I-TV test results

Bell Atlantic Video Services reported buying rates of about 330 percent for its 1,000 household video-on-demand market trial, called Stargazer. The average pay-per-view industry average hovers around 26 percent, according to Bell Atlantic. "We've also found that our customers are substituting Stargazer for video tape rental, suggesting that video-on-demand technology can challenge video rental as a key reenue source for Hollywood," said Stuart Johnson, chairman of Bell Atlantic Video Services. The trial results are being studied by Tele-TV, the new media and technology venture formed by Nynex, Pacific Telesis and Bell Atlantic, as it develops a commercial interactive TV service slated for delivery in 1997.
