Lisa Henriques of Conde Nast Traveler (which will be 10 years old in May!) says they've begun '97 with an upbeat first quarter. Ad pages rose from 271 last year to 288 this time, January through March. That's about 6.5%.

The swimsuit issue hits the newsstands Wednesday. This is the first such from Sports Illustrated not bearing the fine touch of Editor Jule Campbell. It's Elaine Farley now at the helm. Publisher Dave Long says ad pages topped 100 compared with last year's 70 for the same issue.

Lunched at the Cote Basque with Editor Donna Warner of Hachette Filipacchi's Metropolitan Home. What began life as Meredith's Apartment Life is big and booming. The March/April issue (their annual design issue saluting the 100 top designs) starts right off with a five-page gatefold from Infiniti and goes on from there. Anne Triece (associate pub) says since 1993 (when Hachette took over) newsstand sales are up almost 50% and ad pages up 125%. Total circ today is 600,000. They claim more college grad readers (60.7%) than Architectural Digest (58.9%), Elle Decor and Martha Stewart Living. Media household income is $116,000 and median age 39. Ad pages for year to date (two issues) up 13%.
