Brazil's Total Group buys Colombian agency

Brazil's Total Group has bought Bogota-based agency Toro as part of its strategy to become a strong, independent group throughout Latin America and North America's Hispanic market.

Total, which owns ad agency Fischer America, Sao Paulo, will next focus on expansion in Argentina and Chile.

Toro -- now Toro Fischer America -- is one of Colombia's most traditional agencies, with a 52-year history. It ended its relationship with the D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles network last year. Its main clients are Comcel, Roche Laboratories and Fox.

In the past three years, Total Group has spent $15 million buying six agencies in Brazil and one in both Mexico and Venezuela.
