Tribune wins best online newspaper site

The Chicago Tribune Internet Edition (www.chicago.

tribune.com) was named the Best Online Newspaper site for circulation over 150,000 by the Newspaper Association of America's New Media Federation in this year's Digital Edge Awards. Infoseek names new VP-ad sales

Infoseek Corp. appointed Beth Haggerty as its new VP-worldwide ad sales, filling a position held by Karl Spangenberg until he left in April to join Internet profiling startup @plan. Ms. Haggerty was formerly publishing director of CMP's Internet Media Division, overseeing NetGuide Magazine and Net Guide Live (www.netguide. com). Several executives have left Infoseek in the last few months, something it attributes to a change in business models.

Time Warner storms into sports Web arena

Last week Time Warner unveiled CNNSI.com (www.cnnsi.

com), a sports news and information site that will challenge ESPN Sportszone and Sports-Line USA.

Unlike these services, which charge $4.95 for access to certain areas, CNNSI is free. It draws content from CNN and Sports Illustrated, Turner Sports and CNN/SI, the recently launched 24-hour sports news network. CNNSI.com will also serve as the sports site for CNN and the Pathfinder Network.

Poppe Tyson buys Brazilian Web developer

Poppe Tyson Interactive (PTI), the interactive division of Poppe Tyson, New York, has acquired Yes! Design, a Brazilian Web development company, and will open an office in Sao Paulo in conjunction with the acquisition. The new office will be called PTI-Brazil and will employ 12 people.

Deja News launches testing service

Deja News (www.dejanews. com), a search engine for discussion groups, today unveils eMarketing Campaign, a service that tests banners for high-tech companies and ad agencies. In beta tests, GSD&M, Austin, Texas, tracked a Texas Tourism campaign and J. Walter Thompson Specialized Communications/Chicago used it for a virtual job fair.
