Burrell Communications lays off 11

Burrell Communications Group, Chicago, laid off 11 employees in the past week. Most of those let go were mid-level, with remaining cuts made in the account services, creative and media departments, according to Burrell.

The cuts are the result of an internal evaluation of resources to bring in new skill sets, such as account planning and production, according to the company. "We wanted the most bang for our buck," said Mike DiMaio, managing director-operations. "We wanted to bring in some good senior-level talent." The agency last week hired Paul Lewis as director-print production resources from production manager at Kramer-Crasselt, Chicago; Burrell also is awaiting a response from a candidate for its director-account planning post, also a new position.
