BVK moves into Latin America with Hispanic buy

MIAMI -- BVK/McDonald Advertising, Milwaukee, purchased a majority stake in The Meka Group, a Miami-based Hispanic ad agency with $18 million in billings.

Financial details were not disclosed. The new agency will be called BVK/Meka.

The move will launch BVK into both the U.S.Hispanic and Latin American markets, says Manuel F. Machado, founder of Meka and managing officer of the new agency.

Meka handles Hispanic marketing work for Tenet Healthcare, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as well as Nickelodeon Latin America, Miami Beach, and United Family Communications, Miami.

BVK has billings of $135 million a year. Its clients include Budgetel Inns and the Lee County (Florida) Visitor's and Convention Bureau.

Though office consolidation is expected, executives would not give a timetable. Other BVK offices include Cape Coral, Fla., New Orleans, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix and San Diego.
