British Bottler Hopes 'Juice Guys' Will Help It Compete Against Coke, Pepsi

CHICAGO ( -- British beverage company Cadbury Schweppes agreed to buy Nantucket Allserve from Ocean Spray Cranberries for an undisclosed sum.

With the purchase of the premium juice company, Cadbury broadens its portfolio of flavored juice and soft drinks that includes Dr Pepper/Seven Up, Stewarts, Mistic, Motts and Snapple brands.

Cadbury will add the Nantucket Nectars juice brand to its Snapple Beverage Group division, White Plains, N.Y. Nantucket Allserve had sales of $59 million in 2001.

The company was founded in 1990 by Tom First and Tom Scott, who became known as the "Juice Guys" in their advertising.

The acquisition will allow Cadbury to better compete with PepsiCo and Coca-Cola Co, which also have been on buying sprees in the non-cola-flavored beverage category.

Ocean Spray bought Nantucket Nantucket Allserve in 1997.
