Campbell sells Barilla

Campbell Soup Co. has sold the marketing and manufacturing rights to Barilla pasta sauce back to Barilla America, the U.S. unit of parent Barilla Alimentare, Parma, Italy. Campbell said it is dropping the upscale, gourmet-style brand in order to focus on building its established Prego spaghetti sauce line. It was not immediately known whether Barilla agency Margeotes Fertitta & Partners, New York, would be retained; Barilla received very limited marketing support last year. Former Procter & Gamble Chairman Edward Artzt is executive director of Barilla in Italy.
