Canadian agency the Wolf Group expands in the U.S.

TORONTO -- The Wolf Group of Toronto has expanded its U.S. operations by acquiring Meldrum & Fewsmith Communications of Cleveland. The Wolf Group, now with offices in Toronto, Cleveland, Buffalo and Rochester, is projecting 1997 billings of about $200m.

Larry Wolf, chairman, says the agency is continuing to look at other growth opportunities that will allow the agency to expand its North American operations.

Meldrum & Fewsmith provides advertising, sales promotion, direct marketing, Yellow Pages and new media services to a list of clients that includes Continental General Tire, Mr. Coffee, Rubbermaid, Libbey, Dirt Devil and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum.

Meldrum's chairman and CEO Chris Perry says one reason that attracted the agency to the Wolf deal is that the Cleveland office will continue to operate independently, while allowing M&F to go after larger clients it wouldn't have attracted without the Wolf Group's resources.

The Wolf Group's client list includes Kodak, IBM Canada, Bausch & Lomb, Astro Yogurt, Arrow Shirts, National Trust and the Vancouver Stock Exchange.
