NEW YORK-Joe Cappo has been named senior VP-international of Crain Communications, Inc. Succeeding Mr. Cappo as group publisher is Gloria Scoby, VP-publisher of Crain's Chicago Business.

In her new capacity, Ms. Scoby, 49, oversees Advertising Age and five sister CCI publications. She remains publisher of Crain's Chicago. David Blake, advertising director of Crain's, becomes associate publisher.

"Joe has done an outstanding job of licensing the Advertising Age name around the world, and his new position frees him up to work with our other publications on licensing opportunities and in other ways of growing internationally," said Rance Crain, editor in chief of Ad Age and president of CCI.

Mr. Cappo, 59, will expand his activity in negotiating contracts with electronic database services that use content from Crain publications. CCI currently has 14 licensing contracts outside the U.S.

As group publisher, Ms. Scoby will work directly with the publishers of Ad Age, Electronic Media, Franchise Buyer, Pensions & Investments, and Crain's New York Business.

Mr. Cappo, publisher of Ad Age from 1989-91, joined CCI in 1978 as a columnist for the newly launched Crain's Chicago Business and rose to its publisher post. Before that, he worked at the Chi as an advertising and marketing columnist.

"Gloria has worked on Crain's Chicago Business from the beginning, and she was also instrumental in getting Crain's New York Business firmly on the path to success," Mr. Crain said. "I'm delighted she'll be working across a broader group of publications."

Ms. Scoby joined Crain's Chicago in 1978 as part of the start-up team. She served as publisher of Crain's New York from 1987 to 1989 and has been publisher of Crain's Chicago since then.

Mr. Blake, 41, is a 14-year CCI veteran. He becomes associate publisher and advertising director for both Crain's Chicago and Crain's Small Business-Chicago.

CCI is a privately held publishing company that publishes 26 consumer, business and trade titles.
