Car & Driver signs up Chevrolet

The Chevrolet division of General Motors Corp. will be the sole sponsor of Motor Sports '98, which will launch this week as an area on Hachette Filipacchi Magazines' Car & Driver site.

Motor Sports '98 will also be accessible through its own Web site.

Officially, the area will be branded Chevrolet's Monte Carlo Presents Motor Sports '98.


``All of the banners will be fully associated with a single advertiser, Chevy's Monte Carlo,'' said Jim Docherty, Hachette Filipacchi president, new media.

Mr. Docherty hopes that a big driver of traffic to the site will be a fantasy league for users. The fantasy league concept is popular, online and off, with fans of professional baseball, basketball and football.

Indeed, one media executive said Starwave, which produces ESPN's popular site, is planning online fantasy leagues in those sports.

The Motor Sports '98 fantasy league will let users pick racers and teams associated with various Nascar racing categories.

The site will also feature motor sports news.
