DDB finalizes Mexican acquisition

MEXICO CITY -- DDB Needham Worldwide, as expected, has bought a majority stake in Gibert Publicidad and is merging that agency with DDB Needham Mexico to create Gibert DDB.

Based in Mexico City, the newly combined agency will rank No. 11 in Mexico, considerably boosting DDB's standing in the market.

Enrique Gibert is heading Gibert DDB as president and CEO. Before founding the agency eight years ago, he was executive creative director at D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles.

Gibert Publicidad suffered a blow earlier this year when it lost one of its hottest talents, creative director Santiago Pando, who moved to the top spot at Lowe & Partners Mexico.

The merged agency's clients include Blockbuster, Cablevision, Carrefour, Compaq, Clorox, Michelin, Johnson & Johnson, Volkswagen and Resistol.

The merger follows the formal merger in Colombia of Cali-based CMN and Michel Arnau, Medellin, with DDB Needham Bogota. That merger, announced last month, created the sixth largest agency in Columbia, with billings of $45 million. Michel Arnau is president of the merged agency.
