Dell Computer Corp., is teaming with AT&T Corp., Excite and SBC Communications on Internet services on new Dell PCs. With its new Dell ConnectDirect program, Dell will bundle Internet service from AT&T WorldNet connecting to an
Excite custom home page. To make the offering more appealing, initial Internet registration will not require a credit card. Dell and SBC will offer high-speed access over regular phone lines using special ADSL modems under a joint marketing agreement starting early next year in select California and Texas markets. Dell has a similar agreement with US West and Cisco Systems to promote high-speed access in select US West markets.
Paul Bell, senior VP-general manager of Dell's Home & Small Business Group, said the agreements with AT&T and Excite were not exclusive, and that it would add more ISPs to the service to give consumers a choice of services.
