taps Grey; $50 mil budget anticipated

Published on ., San Mateo, Calif., awarded its account to Grey Advertising, San Francis-co, after a review that also included Black Rocket. USWeb/CKS, Cupertino, was the previous agency. Spending on the account was anticipated to be about $50 million. Egghead spent $32 million on measured media in 1999, according to Competitive Media Reporting. Egghead started as a bricks-and-mortar software retailer but moved entirely to the Web when sales lagged. In November, it merged with Onsale Inc., and has expanded its product line from computer hardware and software to consumer electronics, sporting goods and vacation packages. It also has an auction site.
