Marvel Comics and Hygrade Food Products' Ball Park brand have launched a national consumer promotion giving one grand prize winner lunch at school with a Marvel Comics superhero and a comic book creator. The instant-win in-pack promotion was supported by a national free standing newspaper insert, print ads in Marvel Junior comic books and point-of-purchase materials. The contest runs through Dec. 31. Eidos Advertising, Farmington Hills, Mich., handles.

Nintendo of America and Pepsi-Cola Co. are teaming up for a holiday promotion offering discounts on Nintendo videogame products in more than 25 million Pepsi packages from Nov. 20 through Dec. 31. Specially marked 24-packs of Pepsi, Mountain Dew and Lipton Brisk tea drinks will include coupons good for as much as $10 off Nintendo hand-held and portable systems, along with other Nintendo discounts. A TV spot backs the effort via Pepsi agency BBDO Worldwide, New York.

Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is putting a big push behind the home video releases of "Miracle on 34th Street" and "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." Fox will spend $12 million in advertising, created in-house, and has signed L.A. Gear and Nabisco Foods Group's Cream of Wheat to offer rebates and premiums on their packaging. Both films will get plugs on Fox's web site ( "Miracle" hits Nov. 7 and "Rangers" Nov. 21.

Marine Midland Bank, Buffalo, N.Y., last month inked a $15 million, 20-year sponsorship deal to name the city of Buffalo's new sports and entertainment complex Marine Midland Arena. The 20,000-seat complex, home to various Buffalo sports teams, will also serve as a concert and show facility when it opens next fall.
