(May 21, 2001) -- There has been a shift in the advertising public policy world.

Wally O'Brien's appointment as director general of the International Advertising Association, which could be formally announced as soon as Tuesday, has created a vacancy at the Privacy Leadership Initiative, where he had been executive director.

Filling the spot on an interim basis is John Kamp, a former American Association of Advertising Agencies vice president and now a lawyer in private practice.

The Privacy Leadership Initiative is a group founded by 15 large corporations and 15 associations including the Four A's that does research and encourages development of good privacy policies. Mr. O'Brien, who previously had been president of the National Advertising Review Council for the Council of Better Business Bureaus, is replacing Norman Vale, who is retiring. -- Ira Teinowitz
