100 Convenience Stores to Test Selling the Coffee Brand

NEW YORK ( -- Procter & Gamble Co. said on Thursday it will launch a new Folgers Cafe concept in up to 100 test stores beginning later this month in conjunction with Marathon Ashland Petroleum.

The program will consist of a Folgers Cafe logo and the coffee brand's "Wakin' Up" theme and mountain-sunrise icon on Marathon-branded convenience stores throughout the Midwest and Southeast that will feature hot beverage and food-service offerings inside.

The plan is part of Procter's strategy to "provide Folgers to more of our consumers when they are away from home," Chris Hood, marketing director of commercial business for Folgers, said in a statement.

Starbucks and other away-from-home gourmet coffee outlets have eroded sales of packaged coffee in recent years.
